Magoha Orders Closure of Schools

Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha has ordered Kenyan schools to close by tomorrow Tuesday, August 2nd. In a press release sent to all media houses on Monday, August 1, Magoha directed that all schools be closed by then.

“As you are all aware, Kenya is scheduled to conduct its National Elections on Tuesday 9th August, 2022. Therefore, following further consultations, I hereby convey the Government’s decision on the immediate closure of All basic education institutions,” Magoha stated.

Magoha said that schools should close with immediate effect starting Tuesday, August 2. He mentioned that studies would resume a week later on Wednesday, August 10.

He said that this would ensure that the elections are prepared and carried out seamlessly.

“Schools and Parents are advised to ensure that learners from all basic education institutions proceed on their half-term break effective Tuesday, 2nd August, 2022 and resume on Thursday, 11th August 2022,” the Cabinet Secretary insisted.

He also corrected that this information superseded any other communication that came out earlier or later.
