CS Murkomen suspends all Modern Coast Bus travelling operations in Kenya

Kipchumba Murkomen, the cabinet secretary for transport, has directed the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to halt all business operations for the Modern Coast Bus Company.

The highest road fatality toll in Kenya since independence has been reported by local CS Murkomen
All passengers who made reservations with the company are also expected to travel safely and without incident.

This comes after a traffic incident on December 28, 2022, in which one of the buses run by Modern Coast was engaged.

When transporting passengers to Homa Bay county at Makutano Junction in Kisii County, the vehicle crashed into the River Masosa.

This tragedy occurred only a few months after one in July 2022 involving the same bus company that left 36 people dead and countless others injured when a bus crashed into the River Nithi.

Concerns concerning the conditions under which the bus firm was permitted to operate once its license was suspended in July were also addressed by CS Murkomen

In addition to stressing the significance of road safety, Murkomen reminded drivers, owners of public service vehicles, and passengers of the steps that were described in a joint press conference with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki on December 20th.

These precautions include hauling stalled vehicles within an hour, adhering to speed restrictions, and paying attention to passenger capacity. They also include making sure that vehicles are properly maintained and that drivers are rested before getting on the road.
