Michael Olunga Faces Backlash Over Qatar World Cup Performance

Kenyan International Michael Olunga is having it rough with Kenyans at the moment. The Harambee Stars striker on Sunday, November 20, received negative comments after Qatar, the host nation of this year’s World Cup lost to Ecuador.

Kenyans as usual took to Twitter to express their disappointment in the striker. Most of them looked at the level of football Qatar were playing and noticed that it was below standard.

They then tore into the Saudi-based striker claiming that the Middle East nations did not play standard football and that was the real reason why Olunga was shining in those leagues.

Here are some of the comments:

Sadam said: Olunga scores 200 goals a season in Qatar, that should’ve been the first red flag.

Gidi Kariuki said: Are these professional footballers? No wonder Olunga scores a hattrick every game

James Mutinda said: Qatar desperately needs Michael Olunga. We can donate him for 30 days in exchange for 900 million barrels of refined fuel.

Kamau Mwangi defended Olunga and said: Do not let Qatar’s poor game make you underrate our son Michael Olunga. He is one of the best in the world.

Edgar said: JuaCali was Right. I now understand why Michael Olunga scores so many goals in Qatar!

Ecuador beat Qatar 2-0 in the opening game of the World Cup. Qatar became the first host nation to lose their opening game in the tournament.
