IEBC Gives Directive Over Manual Register
Interim Elections and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has given conditions on how the Manual Register will be used. Speaking to the media on Friday, August 5, chairman Wafula Chebukati assured that the biometric register had the same details as the manual one.
“The manual one does have the same details as those in the KIMS kits,” Chebukati stated noting that there were no worries about that. He reported that the only missing thing from the manual register was the biometrics.
“The issue about the register, we have both of them and it is the same. The one that will be used for voting has the ID and phone number, and photo,” the IEBC chair stated.
He also mentioned that the two will be used interchangeably depending on the situation at hand. “If the KIMS kit fail, we will use the manual register.
This comes after the court allowed the manual register to be used as per the demands of the Azimio La Umoja party who had requested it be included.
The party wanted the inclusion of the manual list for the surety of the election process. Kenya goes to the polls on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.
