What Next for Sonko After Supreme Court Ruling?

Former Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi alias Sonko is between a rock and a hard place after the Supreme Court ruled against him. On Friday July 15, the Supreme Court revealed that Sonko was fairly impeached as Nairobi Governor after being involved in corruption scandals.

Sonko was still fighting the ruling until yesterday when the court decided it was a fair decision back then. This meant that he had been found guilty in the case against him. This put a huge dent on his political ambitions as he wanted to be governor of Mombasa.

There was a moment last week when he was given a reprieve in the hopes of him running for the Mombasa gubernatorial seat. Sonko had met up with Azimio running mate Martha Karua and former prime minister Raila Odinga who influenced the decision to let him run for the seat.

The new ruling by the court locks Sonko out of contesting for the Mombasa seat and brings back doubt on his political dreams for the coastal city. Sonko, who is part of the Azimio movement, was running on a Wiper Party ticket and would be going against ODM candidate Abdulswamaad Nassir.

This decision by the Supreme Court leaves the former Starehe Member of Parliament in limbo. It is yet to be revealed what his next plan is but as we know him, he will still fight to be back in contention.
