Kenyan Supreme Court To Make Presidential Petition Ruling at Noon
According to a newsletter seen by Chonjo.co.ke on Monday, September 5, the Supreme Court gave details on the time they would come to the decision in the presidential petition case. The Judiciary through its Twitter handle revealed that they would make the decision at 12 noon.
The Court had been listening to the case for the past 7 days that saw Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga go up against President-elect William Ruto. The case was to nullify the elections that declared the former the winner in the August 9, 2022 elections.
IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati was also at the center of the case that saw the two presidential candidates heading to the Supreme Court. The petitioners argued that there were a lot of discrepancies when the election results were read on August 15, 2022.
They noted that there were some votes that had been added to the system that messed with the final outcome of the results. This prompted the IEBC to open the servers to the petitioners so they could gain access to them and check the mistakes.
Human rights defendant and popular figure Okiyah Omtata revealed that both candidates had not attained the 50+1 percentage that would enable them to be declared the winner.
The IEBC had declared William Ruto the winner in the last general election prompting Azimio to go to court to challenge the decision.
