Bahati Gets IEBC Nod amid Protests from His Party

Kelvin Kioko Bahati popularly known as Bahati has been gazetted by the Interim Elactions and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to vie for the Mathare parliamentary seat. A notice on Sunday, July 10, noted that the singer would be on the balot.

The singer has been facing opposition especially from the Azimio One Kenyan Alliance coalition that had stated they only had one candidate for the Mathare seat.

“WHEN JESUS SAYS YES… NOBODY CAN SAY NO!!! I HAVE BEEN THE MOST FOUGHT MP CANDIDATE; MY LOSING OPPONENT TRIED EVERYTHING TO THREATEN ME & MAKE SURE I STEP DOWN…. BUT LOOK AT WHAT GOD HAS DONE!!! IT’S OFFICIAL #IEBC HAS GAZETTED ME,” Bahati posted on his Twitter account.

The ‘Mama’ hitmaker continued by saying that party politics had failed to put him down because he trusted he would be victorious in the end.

“IT’S OFFICIAL THAT ON THE 9TH OF AUGUST 2022…. I #KIOKO_KEVIN_BAHATI I WILL BE ON THE BALLOT AS THE NEXT MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT MATHARE CONSTITUENCY UNDER THE #JUBILEE_AZIMIO TICKET!!! ASANTE YESU, POKEA SIFA MUNGU” he assured.

Bahati had been facing strong opposition from some members of the coalition who had a separate candidate for the seat. The coalition had decided on an Orange Democratic Movement candidate to take on the seat and used any means necessary to undermine Bahati.

The singer had earlier last week been chased out of a campaign rally by goons who did not want to see him fighting for the seat.
