Terms of use
Last updated 24 September 2026
These are the terms on which Chonjo provides Chonjo to your shop. Starting a shop means you agree to them, on behalf of the business.
The service
Chonjo is an assistant that answers your shop’s WhatsApp number, keeps your sales and deni records, and brings customers’ orders and requests to you to decide. It works from the information you give it.
Your part
- Keep your prices, stock, payment details and other shop information correct. The assistant tells customers what you have entered.
- Check what the assistant reads back before you reply YES. Records are saved only on your confirmation, and you are responsible for them.
- Decide orders, credit and complaints yourself. The assistant does not agree to sales, delivery, credit or discounts on your behalf.
- Tell your customers that an assistant answers your shop’s number, and handle their data lawfully.
- Keep your sign-in to yourself, and add as staff only people you trust.
The assistant can make mistakes
Like a new member of staff, the assistant can misunderstand a message or give a wrong answer. It is built to ask rather than guess, and nothing is recorded without your YES — but you remain responsible for your business and your dealings with customers. We are not a party to sales between you and your customers.
You use WhatsApp under WhatsApp’s own terms. On the Free trial and Starter plans the assistant connects as a linked device, which WhatsApp does not officially support for this purpose; there is a risk that WhatsApp restricts the number. We are not responsible for WhatsApp’s decisions about your number. The Business plan can use Meta’s official WhatsApp Business Platform instead.
What you may not do
- Send spam or unwanted bulk messages, or use the service for anything illegal.
- Sell or advertise prohibited goods, or mislead or harass anyone.
- Try to get into another shop’s data, or interfere with the service.
We may suspend a shop that does, and will tell you why.
Plans and payment
- Each person gets one free trial of 14 days, with your first shop.
- Paid plans (Starter: KES 1,500 a month; Business: KES 4,500 a month) are paid by M-Pesa, 30 days at a time. Nothing renews or is charged automatically.
- Each plan includes a number of messages to the assistant a month. When they are used up, or a plan runs out, the assistant stops answering until you upgrade or pay again. Your records are kept.
- If you were charged in error, contact us and we will put it right.
- We will give at least 30 days’ notice of any change to prices.
Your data
Your shop’s records belong to you. You can download them from the dashboard at any time. How we handle personal data is set out in our privacy notice.
Ending the service
You can stop at any time: switch the assistant off from the dashboard, and ask us to close the shop and delete its data. We may close an account that breaks these terms, or that has not been used for a long time, after telling you by email.
Our responsibility
We work to keep Chonjo running and accurate, but cannot promise it will never be unavailable or wrong. As far as the law allows, our responsibility to you for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the three months before it. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under Kenyan law that cannot be limited.
Law and changes
These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya. If we change them, we will update this page and tell shop owners by email before the change takes effect. Questions? Reach us by email junanaphil@gmail.com.
