Embrace the Joy of the Festive Season Upcountry: Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Inviting Call
As the 2023 holiday season approaches, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has extended a warm invitation to Kenyans, urging them to embrace the joy of the festivities in their rural homesteads.
Speaking at the 2023 Taxpayers’ Day on November 3 in Mombasa, the second-in-command encouraged citizens to consider spending their holidays upcountry, emphasizing the numerous benefits it offers.
Gachagua highlighted the significance of this call, not only in terms of personal enjoyment but also for the greater good of the nation. He stressed the idea of opening their city homes to tourists, contributing to foreign exchange earnings and job creation.
“We are encouraging the people of this great city of Mombasa and other cities to consider traveling upcountry and avail their homes here for tourists because that is good for the country in terms of foreign exchange earnings and creating employment,” Gachagua said.
The Deputy President pointed out the remarkable growth of the tourism sector, with most hotels in various destination sites fully booked until the following year.
Given this situation, Gachagua firmly advocated for choosing the option of heading upcountry for the festive season. He stated, “I want today authoritatively to inform the people of Kenya that tourism has picked up for a good turn, and as we speak today, all hotel rooms in Mombasa, Maasai Mara have been booked up to February next year. So, anybody who wants to travel to Mombasa for Christmas and has not booked their room, you just have to go to your village and relax there with your ancestors.”
In conclusion, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s call to celebrate the festive season upcountry presents an opportunity for Kenyans to explore the rich cultural heritage of their rural areas, while also positively impacting the national economy.
As the tourism sector continues to flourish, making a journey to one’s ancestral home becomes a compelling choice for a memorable holiday season. It is a chance to create lasting memories and contribute to the growth of the nation, making the holiday season even more meaningful.
So, as the festive season approaches, consider Gachagua’s invitation and make the most of this unique opportunity to connect with your roots and experience the splendor of Kenya’s upcountry regions.
